Tora Mill Farm

My sister and I are the sixth generation of our century family farm outside of Wellman, Iowa. After my husband Tyson and I lived out of state for over 20 years, we had a deep desire to get more involved in my family’s farm operation so our sons could gain a deeper understanding of farm life. Therefore, we moved back to Iowa in 2022. Our hope is that our sons make wonderful memories on this farm so they too will want to farm someday. Tyson and I have a deep desire to not only want to get our sons out in nature and educate them about agriculture, but we also have a desire to educate others. This passion was established during our time living in North Carolina, Indiana, Arizona and Kansas, as it became clear that our society is getting further and further from interacting with nature and our country’s farming history.

Today we all play a role in our farm. Tyson works for an organization that helps farmers gain a deeper understanding of their operation through precision agriculture, my oldest son and I take the lead with our goat operation, our youngest son collects the eggs from the chickens, and the whole family gets involved in creating events that help guests gain a better understanding of farm life. Farming is a family affair, which is why our farm name, TORA MILL, is a collection of our names: Tyson, Oliver, Rachel and Ames Miller.

FARM TOURS

We offer educational farm tours to families, small groups (like a birthday party), or school groups. Farm tours include connecting with our cows, chickens, goats, and pets, while also learning about crop rotations, soil health, and basic farm equipment. Sit on a tractor, collect some eggs and pet our goats…and so much more! Tours start at $50 an hour, but can be customized with additional experiences depending on your goals (hay rides, picnic, etc.)

GOATS

We have a lively goat operation with 20 friendly nannies (mommy goats). Typically, each year we have about 30 kids (baby goats) arrive in late March. We sell our goat kids in June — except for one or two that we fall in love with. If you have interest in purchasing one of our boer goat kids in June please contact us. (Estimated price is $200).

ON-FARM CAMPING

We offer on-farm primitive camping through Hip-Camp or through private arrangement. We have several beautiful locations including our farm pond and screened in cabin, our creek camp area, or in our apple orchard. ($75 per night).

EGGS

Looking for high quality eggs? Look no further. We sell our eggs for $3.00 a dozen. Supplies are limited, so call today. Our chickens/eggs are not organic, but they are farm fresh and well loved!

APPLE ORCHARD

We have two heritage apple orchards. “Heritage” means varieties that were planted several decades ago. Our apple trees are roughly 50 years old — prior to the GMO movement. Therefore, you can pick a bushel of apples that literally takes you back in time. Planted by my great grandparents, these orchards are near and dear to our family. You pick for $20 dollars a bushel between July and September.

In addition to our farm event venues, beautiful views and peaceful and private settings, our immediate area will offer your guests several unique amenities. Pick up some homemade Amish doughnuts at the Golden Delight Bakery, cheese curds at the Kalona Creamery, enjoy a classy happy hour at Kalona Brewing Company or Tuscan Moon Grill, pamper yourself at Eden Salon & Spa, or order amazing cakes or cupcakes from Best of Iowa. All of these great shops can be found between our location and Kalona, Iowa — just 12 miles away. Other area attractions include Fireside Winery near Williamsburg, historic experiences at the Amana Colonies, the Riverside Casino and golf course, or family style meals in an Amish home. We are conveniently located 20 miles or less from several southeast Iowa communities including Iowa City, Hills, Riverside, Williamsburg, North English, Keota, Wellman and Kalona.
